The board's FAQ states: "The Mississippi Nursing Practice Law does not mandate CEUs as a prerequisite to renewing or maintaining a RN or LPN license." The law requires each nurse to maintain competency in his or her own field of practice. The one exception: an RN who has been out of practice for more than five years must complete a minimum of twenty (20) contact hours of accepted continuing education earned in the two-year period immediately before the renewal, endorsement, or reinstatement application. The board's FAQ also states that Title 30, Part 2815 (Continuing Education) was repealed by the Board in February 2020; a 2019 copy of that repealed rule, which required 20 contact hours per renewal period, is still hosted on the board's site and should not be relied on. APRNs have a separate controlled-substances CE requirement.
