Do Minnesota nurse anesthetists have to submit CE certificates at renewal?

At the time of renewal the board randomly selects a sample of licensees and requires substantiation of the activities confirmed on the report. Failure to substantiate results in the hours being automatically deferred to the next participation period, and failure to substantiate at the next renewal is grounds for disciplinary action. The rules state no licensee record retention period.

Stat. 148.171, subdivision 22a, Roles of advanced practice registered nurses, lists certified registered nurse anesthetist as one of the four recognized roles, and subdivision 3 defines APRN as an individual licensed by the board and certified by a national certification organization to practise as a clinical nurse specialist, nurse anesthetist, nurse-midwife or nurse practitioner. Chapter 6310 is written for professional, practical and advanced practice registration together and contains no nurse anesthetist specific continuing education provision, so the figure matches the Minnesota nurse practitioner record. The reasoning behind the 24 hours is worth stating plainly because the rule's wording is narrower than the record's scope: Minn. R. 6310.2800, subpart 3 sets the ratio for a registered nurse and a licensed practical nurse and states no separate advanced practice ratio, and Minn.
