Rule 410-13-.02(1): to renew, an LPN completes one of two continuing competency options during the biennial licensure period: (a) Completion of twenty (20) continuing education hours by a Board approved provider; or, (b) Completion of an accredited academic program of study in registered professional nursing, as recognized by the board. An applicant renewing for the first time whose initial license period is six months or less is not required to meet the requirement until the second renewal. The Board may waive or modify the requirement for hardship, disability or illness. Failure to meet the requirement is grounds for denial of renewal. The LPN hour count (20) differs from the RN count (30), and the LPN rule does not offer the national certification or 500 practice hour options that Rule 410-13-.01 gives RNs.
